We should have upgrades on this site. Like so many per offseason, or draft picks, give us all 3rd, 4th rounders that we can trade for, or something like that so we can upgrade guys we want to!

Having 3rd and 4th rounders permits each team to have 1 or 2 player upgrades per season. To me, that's a bit much. If everyone likes this idea, I would propose something as such:
1. Each team gets 1 upgrade point per season. 2. A player can only be submitted for upgrade once.
That's all I can think of right now, but those guidelines would be more appropriate. That way, you can't use two upgrade points on one player, nor can you take three years and boost Wade Belak to be a 99.

the only way I would like to see "upgrades" is if after each season mike went through each team and upgraded or downgraded each player based on production, and age.
Obviously that is too much to ask Mike to do, so I will pass on upgrades IMO

I think we need something. Right now, there's nothing to look forward to except the draft. It would be nice to have free agency, or upgrades, or... something. It's next to impossible to trade, so for shitty teams like mine, I really have no hope of making my team better. I even drafted 4th overall, and my rookie turned out to be an 80. Without upgrades, Letang will be a pretty stale 4th OA pick. If the next draft has the same results, and nobody trades, and I can't get players free via free agency, the way I see it, my team really has no hope.

I agree. How are players ever supposed to get better/worse? If we progress each season and add new players doesn't it make sense that the younger players already in the league get better?

Just some way to improve our rosters would be a good idea. Being stuck with a bunch of 79/80 players sucks. I already moved my picks so Im shit out of luck when it comes to the draft.

I thought rookies got 1 year to improve. So Letang 80 could become 84. If this is not the case, there should be some upgrades for these guys.

What if we did something cool, like interactive with the league and players. If we allowed each team to pick say 2 guys, say what they should be upgraded to, and then the league votes on what the upgrade should actually be, or whether or not he be upgraded.
Make an upgrade section, and give us our own thread.
Example. Everybody has their own thread, you go to Maple Leafs. Leafs proposes Kessel 89 and Grabovski 86 be upgraded to like a 90 and 88 respectively. He gives us a reason as to why they deseve to be upgraded, and then we can all agree or disagree, give our own opinion. Its kind of like posting a trade, with trade mods, except its player upgrades, which we all vote on.

I believe so, but if I remember right, thats based on his rookie year stats. So on a crapper team like mine, he's gonna have a bad season, so should that really determine how he plays for the rest of his career? Most players take 3 or 4 years to develop, and Letang was no excecption IRL. Also, I don't really like the EA aucion idea. It's a ton of work for the simmer, and it's hard to get better when you have to give up a player who's almost equal to get him. Also, it just becomes an endless cycle of the same old dudes going round n' round. I'm a much bigger fan of keeping sim leagues more realistic. I say we bring in contracts, free agency and for growth, I like the ideas being tossed around. Maybe just add some restrictions (age, potential, ect) I also like the idea of the upgrades being approved in some way. To make sure the right guys are growing, and not a 37 year old jobber.

How about what Florida offered? This year I'll allow for each team to submit 3 players, after that each year it is 1 player for review on upgrade, plus all the draft picks upgrade after their first season, so theoretically every season after this one each team can upgrade possibly two players (their draft pick and a player submitted). Players are rated based in accordance to production on here, and team explanation.

We just abolished them prior to this season and introduced ratings. To go back would be a big hassle.
