Alright, so after a few lengthy discussions between PR and I, the following changes will be applied to ManNHL Lockout. The reason for these changes is very simple - for simplicity. We've realized that the best way for people to enjoy these sites without interfering with school and work and life is to make them as enjoyable as possible without having to do much work. That means that the following will be done to make it simpler, BUT we are bringing back ratings to allow for easier trade negotiations, though one rating will remain invisible for a period of time, but we'll get to that. This first paragraph is merely to inform you of what you are about to read.
Note: The timing of this announcement and the end of the NHL Lockout is a neat coincidence.
How It Will Work
As we stated when we opened, there was going to be a year where everything was sort of a free-for-all, and it has been. Now that the year is over, we are implementing some things.
1. All players will have ratings immediately.
What this means:
--As we stated countless times, the new simulator works differently, so while you're accustomed to ratings that are from 70s to 90s, ours are a bit closer, but would explain why some players who are ranked low can still produce (mostly bottom pairing defencemen). This is because the ratings structure with our program works differently than EA and 2K.
Why are we doing this?
--We found that some people had a hard time trading based on production alone, and others simply didn't care who they had or who they were trading. Associating a rating to them simplifies trading, and makes it easier to reach deals on players according to production/rating to find a middle ground. Now, some players over-producing can be appropriately seen for what they are and trade partners can determine if they fit their criteria or if they can continue to produce for them.
We realize there are pros/cons for trading, but this truly will add a better dimension for you to enjoy your team and find easier ways of truly upgrading or building a better team rather than relying purely on stats.
2. There Will Be No Contracts
What this means:
--You won't have to worry about losing your players to bad contracts, over-performance vs. salary, or even from having too big of a salary cap. There is no salary cap, there are no contracts, you own your players until you get rid of them or they retire.
Note: This part compounds with Part 3!
Why are we doing this?
--Teams had a lot of players they otherwise would not have gotten rid of if it weren't for the fact that some guys were just a bit too pricey and they needed to fill their teams. Secondly, some people LOVE a specific player and would rather keep that player by paying him huge dollars and dump the rest of their team than to keep a bunch of solid players for 5M. This allows you to TRULY build YOUR team for YOU and YOU alone. Don't care about winning a cup? Now you can love your team for the sake of building what you like and hoping for the best.
3. There Is a Roster Limit of 23 Players
What this means:
--Teams will submit their 23 Man Roster, which includes players selected from the first two rounds of the 2005 Entry Draft. This will include your top 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, 2 goaltenders and 3 extras. You will post that by clicking the following link:
mannhllockout.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=signings&thread=392
Why are we doing this?
--It makes sure that you have exactly who you want to have on your team while having a full roster plus a few spares. This will prevent teams from having 40 player rosters for no reason at all.
4. Trading, Drafting, Development Etc.
- Trading - When trading, you must ensure that you are still compliant based on your roster limit. Trades will still nearly always be approved, but with ratings associated it will be easier to make and approve as it gives another dimension to review other than production.
- Drafting - When drafting a player, if you are under your 23 Man Roster Limit, you can freely select and retain a player. If you are AT your 23 Man Roster Limit, you must select a player on your roster you wish to drop to Free Agency in order to select and add a player from the draft to your roster. This will be applied to Round 3 of the 2005 Entry Draft, which we will now explain.
- Draft Ratings - Ratings for NHL prospects in drafts will only be made available at the end of the draft. This allows you to scout players, make a selection and then see how they will turn out in their rookie season. Ratings of Previous NHL Players will always be made available.
- Development - There will still be a development portion to the game. Player ratings for drafted players will be made final following their first season played. If players fail to play their first year, their rating will remain the same forever.
5. Promotional Draft AKA Round 3 of Entry Draft
--We will be adding a new round to the upcoming draft. The only players that will be allowed to be selected for this draft are players that have been removed from Forfeited/Bankrupt Teams. You may select a player from the list that will be provided based on the players available, or maintain your current team.
--All players leftover from this group will remain draft-possibles for next year along with the 2006 NHL Entry Draft prospect batch for selection.
--This will allow you to promote a position, or improve at a specific location or merely snag yourself someone you really want on your extras because you are a fan of that player. The 23 Roster Limit applies to this addition.
6. What Happens to the PR?
We talked it over, and PR has decided to retire from his PR duties for the time being. It's been a good run, but the new changes allow us to make things easier on us as league-runners and you as players. This decision was merely done to allow everyone to have more fun.
PR/Justin is now looking at taking over a team on the league and continuing to participate as a player rather than making you all beg for home-town discounts (jk).
The changes will come into affect immediately. We are already compiling the document to cite ratings so that you can immediately review your player overalls and then determine who you wish to keep on your 23 Man Roster. The ratings for the players selected in the first two rounds of the 2005 Entry Draft will still be kept blind until after this 23 Man Roster portion has been conducted, forcing teams to choose between keeping their drafted player with a blind overall or replacing with a guaranteed overall. NHL player ratings will never change, unless they are a drafted as a prospect in which case they could develop after their first season.
If you have any questions, please ask them now. We will not be holding a poll to determine the results of any of these changes.
